The Pastoral Services Department is here to provide excellent spiritual, emotional, and ethical care to a diverse patient, family, and staff population at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
You can call upon us
A Chaplain is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can contact a chaplain by calling the hospital operator who will page the chaplain who is on duty.
The ministries of the Pastoral Services Department are not forced upon anyone but are offered and made available to all who request them.
Some of the reasons you might ask for a chaplain:
- You feel hopeless.
- You would like someone to pray for you.
- You are grieving a loss or have recently heard bad news.
- You would like assistance with a life celebration.
- You would like some help in contacting your church or connecting with your religious community.
- You feel anxious or upset about what is happening.
- You would like support for a friend or family member.
Chaplaincy Services we provide include:

- Participation in family conferences
- Crisis intervention
- Memorial Services
- Consultations
- Participation in the Palliative Care Program
- Support to Hospital Staff
Visiting Clergy
Community Clergy are encouraged to continue their pastoral relationship with their members by visiting them when they are hospitalized. Patient room numbers may be obtained at the information desk in either the McLeod Tower or the McLeod Pavilion.
- Privileges. Visiting clergy are welcome and encouraged to visit members of their own congregations when those members are hospitalized. Please review this document for more information on the instructions and privileges for Visiting Clergy.
- Identification. A Visiting Clergy Photo ID Badge is issued by the McLeod Human Resources Department. After reviewing the Visiting Clergy policy, please complete the Visiting Clergy Badge Request Form and the Non-Employees ID Card Authorization Form and return them to Tom Pietila, Director, in the Pastoral Services Department.
- Parking. Vehicles must have a clergy parking decal affixed to the left rear window or left side of the bumper.

We are located on the first floor of the McLeod Tower, in the lobby next to the chapel.
Where are the chapels located?
There is a chapel in the main lobbies of the McLeod Tower and Pavilion. Both are open for prayer and meditation 24 hours a day, unless a scheduled service is being held.

When are chaplains available in the hospital?
A chaplain is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies, crises, and urgent spiritual care needs by calling 843-777-2000 and asking the operator for the on-call chaplain. Non-emergent referrals can be communicated to the Pastoral Care Services office at 843-777-2119 for response by the next weekday morning.
Where do clergy park when visiting patients at the hospital?
A limited number of parking spaces are reserved for clergy who have registered with the Pastoral Services office and have a parking decal.
Are clergy notified when a patient is admitted to the hospital?
When patients are admitted to McLeod Regional Medical Center, they are asked to indicate their religious affiliation, if any, and whether they consent to having their name and affiliation appear on a confidential spiritual care visiting listing. Properly credentialed clergy have access to this spiritual care visitation listing for the specific, limited purpose of looking up their congregants. Patients who have opted not to appear on this listing can be found in the same way any patient can be located – by calling patient information, and ask for patient by name.
Can clergy request that a chaplain visit hospitalized members of their congregation?
Yes. Community clergy and/or loved ones are welcome to contact the chaplain to request a spiritual care visit by calling 843-777-2119 for routine requests, or by calling 843-777-2000, and asking the operate to page the on-call chaplain in the event of an emergent spiritual need or request.
Are spiritual care literature, prayer booklets and holy books available?
Yes, a limited number of resources and devotional material are available in the Pastoral Services office and the chapels.
