As the medical director, Dr. Johnson sees patients in the McLeod Occupational Health medical clinic, providing injury treatment and case management services. He also provides on-site services for several corporations in the area. Those services include consulting on work safety issues, conducting employee physicals and treating any work-related injuries or illnesses.
Dr. Johnson and his wife, Kathy, relocated to Florence from West Bloomfield , Michigan where he served as the Occupational Health Medical Director for the Henry Ford Health System. While at the Henry Ford Health System, Dr. Johnson developed programs to control workers compensation costs, reduce absenteeism, enhance productivity, and promote employee wellness. He has over 13 years of Medical Director experience, including Medical Director of a major corporation with over 30,000 employees.
A leading authority on medical center occupational health issues, he is board certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the only board certified Occupational Health physician in the Greater Florence area. Dr Johnson received his medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He has a Masters in Public Health from University of Alabama ( Birmingham) and completed his Occupational Medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
