With three Siemens Primus Treatment Units all utilizing Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), the McLeod Radiation Oncology department offers patients in the region treatment of various tumors, including prostate, breast and lung. Three-dimensional treatment planning is also used in treating cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, brain, head and neck. This innovative computer system helps spare normal tissue while enabling treatment from many different angles. An image guided radiation treatment program also includes fusion capability for planning, and portal imaging on the treatment machines.
In the area of prostate cancer, enhanced accuracy of prostate treatment is provided with the use of two I-Beam ultrasound localization units. Radiation therapy is also administered via brachytherapy. Patients with cancer of the prostate also have the option of treatment utilizing Palladium seeds, which is a non-invasive procedure requiring only a one-day hospital stay.
Other services offered by McLeod Radiation Oncology include Mammosite breast cancer treatments and GliaSite treatment for recurrent malignant Glioma of the brain.
The mission of the McLeod Radiation Oncology Department is to serve as the regional radiation therapy center, providing radiation care at local and regional levels allowing cancer patients to receive the highest quality care while remaining in their home environments.
