Residents may repeat core rotations as elective rotations during the spring. *Opportunities to focus elective areas of practice are available based on the resident's interests.
Administration and Practice Management
During practice management training, residents will focus on management skills, such as committee participation, developing policies and procedures, and budget preparation. Also residents can fulfill management requirements by helping establish new elective rotations.
Drug Information
During the year, each rotation will encompass tasks to help residents develop a strong and proficient system for effectively locating and communicating drug information in response to inquiries generated by physicians, rotation preceptors and other hospital staff
Family Medicine
Pharmacy residents are given the opportunity to work closely with the Family Medicine Program medical residents and the Pharm.D. faculty member of the medical residency program. Through this experience, pharmacy residents hone their abilities to interact as part of a healthcare team, communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals during daily inpatient rounds and in an outpatient clinic setting, and gain exposure to the medical learning process. Opportunities for additional education are provided in fields including geriatrics/long-term care, dermatology, obstetrics, and internal medicine.
Support
We believe in providing our pharmacy residents full support throughout all elements of the residency program. In order to provide guidance during this experience, each resident will be assigned a residency/project advisor and a mentor.
Evaluations
ASHP has established core standards for evaluating a resident’s performance during the PGY1 residency year. Evaluations are completed via Resi-Trak, which is an electronic database incorporating the Residency Learning System (RLS) to ensure ongoing feedback. This process facilitates the development of the residents’ skills throughout the year.
