The beautiful McLeod Family Medicine Center was originally built in 1980 and encompassed 18,000 square feet. An additional 16,340 square feet was added during renovations in 1997. The current building spans 34,340 square feet, which includes three patient care areas and a total of 24 exam rooms. Each patient care area consists of 8 exam rooms and a nursing station. There are three procedure rooms – one in each of the three patient care areas. Additionally the building houses a resident lounge with a computer and library area, the local full-service AHEC library, a behavioral science center, and four lecture rooms for presentations and noon conferences. The behavioral science center is located in one of the three patient care areas and has a large interview room which is equipped with cameras and ear microphone equipment to assist in instructing residents on interviewing skills. All patient rooms also have cameras and microphones to assist in video precepting and observation of resident-patient interaction.

Since August 2003 the Family Medicine Center has been utilizing a state-of-the-art wireless electronic medical record (EMR) system called Medinformatix. Currently, the center is fully integrated into the EMR, and many of the physicians use the wireless prescription fax system for prescribing medications from the Family Medicine Center as well as from the nursing homes. The EMR can also be used for hospital admission, H & Ps, compiling procedure notes, and viewing all labs and X-rays from the McLeod Health system. The EMR is easily accessed by the Fujitsu Lifebooks, which are provided to all faculty and residents, from any computer in the hospital or nursing homes, and from virtually anywhere else via the Internet.
