The McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute's Echocardiography and EKG Department and the Region's first Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory provide advanced diagnostic services. Four registered echosonographers with a combined 80-plus years of experience staff the Echocardiography Department. The McLeod Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory includes four cardiac cath lab rooms and one dedicated lab for electrophysiology studies. These studies track the speed and flow of electrical signals through the heart to predict if an individual is at high risk for sudden cardiac death. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory not only diagnoses but also treats many conditions without surgery.
For patients requiring surgery, the surgeons of McLeod Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates offer the finest surgical heart and vascular care in the region. All four surgeons are fellow-shipped trained and board-certified.
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at McLeod is a 14-bed unit for critically ill surgical patients. One of the first units of its kind in the nation, the CVICU is responsible for helping open heart surgery patients get back on their feet and begin rehabilitation as quickly as possible.
The McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute's commitment to excellent patient care extends well beyond discharge. Those recovering from a heart attack or open-heart surgery, have stable angina or are at high risk for heart disease benefit from a four-phase cardiac rehab program that helps patients and their families resume active, productive lifestyles.
